Imagine you are 7 years older...
It was one of the best pieces of advice I ever got.
...and it came from my dad.
He was a GP in a smaller town.
Over a 40-year career, he saw the lives of individuals unfold, and generations pass by.
It taught him about "time in life".
He told me that many folks waited too long to do something they really needed or wanted for themselves or their family.
Just one more year...a little more time.
Then things happened.
...Too late.
Time is cruel...
You can give, and give - but it doesn't always love you back.
When I had dilemmas or decisions in life, he taught me to imagine I was 7 years older.
This often led to a sense of urgency to make a call - or not.
It gave me a secret time buffer of sorts.
It changed my perspective.
If you are 25 wondering if you should get that degree.
- Imagine you are 32 and either have it or don’t.
If you are 45 contemplating that dream business before you get too old.
- Imagine you are 52...
If you are 65 considering more full-time work for more money.
- Imagine you are 72.
In the end, time is all we got.
If there is something you need to do - don't wait.
